According to the article, the puritans wanted to reform the Church of England. Their ideas were undermining the authority of the king by destroying the unity of the state church. Of course they couldn't, so they went to find a place where they would be free to do so. They found Plymouth and many ministers, who weren't allow to preach in England anymore, migrated there seeking religious freedom with their followers and the pilgrims. The puritans weren't the only ones that went to the colonies for religious motives; there was also a group called the quakers that came here to be able to express their religion. The difference between the wakers and the puritans were that the puritans wanted america to be led by the christian religion while the Quakers believed that there should be tolerance for other religion. The puritans left to be able to have religious freedom but then weren't tolerant of the other religions trying doing that same which is just unfair for me.
